CHAPTER ONE

CINDY RARELY SPENT HER EVENINGS AT HOME. SHE OFTEN WORKED late and went to the gym or hung out with her friends afterward. But today she'd called to say she was tired. She told me she was coming straight home to relax, so I was expecting her any minute.

I was standing at the sink rinsing a few pots and pans, thinking how lucky it was that I'd finished the housework. Often I left some of my work until evening, since Cindy ordinarily got home rather late. After finishing the dishes I wiped my hands, took off my glossy kitchen apron and went to my room.

Checking my make-up in the mirror, I decided to change into a fresh uniform. Usually I wore a simple black uniform for evening, but I decided to slip on a nice linen one over a slim taffeta petticoat instead. As I was tying on my starched white apron, I heard the apartment door slam shut.

"Miss Cindy's home," I whispered with a feeling of excitement. I quickly glanced in the mirror and smoothed my apron.

I scurried down the hallway, my high heels resisting my attempt at hurrying. Miss Cindy was just falling back into the big gray leather sofa as I arrived at the living room.

Wow!

I never quite got used to Miss Cindy's dazzling presence. Even in an oversized white sweat shirt and black cotton/Lycra capri pants, she was absolutely stunning.
